There are many things we can all do that have a positive impact on our physical and mental health such as eating a balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight, stopping smoking, drinking less alcohol and being physically active. During lockdown with the Coronavirus pandemic, this has not always been easy!
Most of us struggle with our weight at times in our lives and almost two-thirds of adults in the UK are either overweight or obese. A healthy weight, together with a healthy balanced diet and being physically active, can have major benefits for our long term health. The same goes for not smoking and, whilst many people have stopped smoking before and during the pandemic, it remains the greatest cause of premature death and creates a higher risk associated with COVID-19 infection.
Every pharmacy in England now has at least one Health Champion. Health Champions have undergone special training and are there to advise and support you on healthy lifestyles. Each pharmacy also has a health promotion zone with information on a range of things you can do to live a healthier life and reduce the risks associated with ill-health such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer.
The next time you visit your pharmacy, take a look and have a chat with their Health Champion, they may be able to help you on your way to a healthier, longer life.
